Homestead Design
This past spring, PermaCulture Party completed their first design! We are so grateful for John and Theresa for trusting us to design their food forest.
This ~0.6 acre design took advantage of their spacious yard to create a 7-layer food forest, to feed their growing family!
Fruit will be abundant with apple, peach, pear paw paw, apricot, nectarine, cherry, and mulberry trees, along with honeyberries, currants, blueberries, blackberries, gooseberries, service berries, strawberries, and elderberries. The chickens will gobble up mulberries that fall to the ground π.
Hazelnuts provide a native protein source while grapes climb up trellises. Native wildflower patches provide natural medicine and abundant habitat for our furry friends ππ¦.
The existing garden bed produces a plethora of vegetables, intermixing perennials like rhubarb and asparagus with annuals like tomatoes and cucumbers.
A fish pond provides water for wildlife and a place for dragonflies to breed (to eat mosquitoes!). An herb spiral and bird bath near the front door provides easy access to culinary deliciousness.
Mushrooms cultivated in the woods round out the dinner plate.
Thank you, John and Theresa, for the opportunity and loving testimonial ππΌπ€ .
βWe moved to a new house last summer. For both environmental and financial reasons, our dream is to slowly transform our property into a sustainable food forest. Alex has been amazing to work with to make this dream a reality. He is extremely knowledgeable yet also willing to go the extra mile to learn and find answers to our various design questions. He provided us with a beautiful design and many resources to create our abundant food forest.β
